Rewind 99 Remix Update
The biggest technical patch of Early Access — and it will not open your old save.
Remix is the name Gunmetal Games put on the late-August 2026 technical update. Steam billed it as the biggest pass yet: performance overhaul, rebuilt employee AI, quality-of-life, an expanded map, and a hard requirement for new save files. If you only read one updates page, read this one. It changes which co-op button you click and whether your basement still exists.
Why Remix exists
From March through early summer, two complaints dominated Steam and Discord: late-game hitching as the shop and town filled, and employees who would not do the job. Stockers mixed genres. Cashiers idled. CPU graphs looked like a second boss. The studio said those two fires were the highest engineering priority, even while Pier 67 minigames and other content went out. Remix is the bill coming due.
That is also why the save wipe exists. Rebuilt AI and memory work rarely migrate a living world cleanly. The news post was explicit: new files. There is no secret converter on this wiki. Screenshot your collectibles room if you care; then start a fresh clerk.
What you should feel in a new world
- Frames — the shop should stay playable as decorations and hustles stack. If it does not, verify system requirements before you blame Remix. A GTX 1060 is the floor, not a 4-player promise.
- Staff — restock and rewind brains were the target. Still walk the wall after a rush. Employees remain a paid risk, not a miracle.
- Map — expanded Reshoot Springs on top of Pier 67. Official X billed expansions to Pier 67 plus new items to sell in store. See Pier 67. Tours from March will look small. Use the map guide.
- QoL — Hold T drops stacks of 20; Press C sells whatever you are holding. The open/closed sign now sets operating hours (the shop is not 24/7). Keep F5. Keep Sudoku as unstuck.
- Combat loop — late-rental Push Your Luck is gone. Collect overdue tapes by beating them out of delinquents. RentNet Goons vandalize the shop if you ignore kiosks. How to beat RentNet.
- Lore Fragments — Phase One of Storm the Tower. Not a finished raid. Secret areas and a Mousegirl Mansion visual pass shipped with the expanded map.
- PT-BR beta — Settings → Gameplay → Language. Store-page copy is still English-first.
- Partial controller — playable, far from perfect. Steam Deck stays Unsupported. More input patches were promised on a ~2-week horizon, not a dated patch.
Temporarily disabled hustles (official Remix list, “coming back over the coming weeks”): Sloshy Bar, Pizza Delivery, Rodeo, Arcade. Claw, Candy, Repo Man, Fight Club, and Mixing stayed. Rank live toys on the tier list. Do not grind a pizza VIP on Remix until the listing is back. Legacy still has the June versions.
Same-day UPDATE v1.0.00 — Hotfix #1 (27 August) followed the all-nighter: employees stop restocking from storage, hire tasks pick up immediately, stuck unload orders, auto rewind stations, checkout 5s → 2s per item, queue alignment, co-op-offline as a real popup, HUD clock / OPEN-CLOSED sign translations, Dribbles creature animation, main-menu character no longer movable. No Hotfix #2 had posted as of 29 August. Patch notes.
What Remix is not: a finished town bible, a dated co-op return, or a promise that the four parked hustles are gone forever. Studio tweets called it 1.0. Steam dated the store release 27 August 2026. Content still ships. The year roadmap is hoped for September.
Co-op and the Legacy beta
This is the sentence people miss. After Remix shipped, co-op was not on the new branch yet. Steam instructed players to switch to Legacy (right-click the game → Properties → Betas → Legacy) to play the June-era build with older saves and four-player lobbies. Remix saves you make now are intended to become co-op compatible when the feature returns. Restoring that is the studio’s stated top follow-up.
Practical rules:
- Friends must share a branch. Mixed Remix/Legacy lobbies will fail.
- Do not copy Legacy folders onto Remix and hope.
- Host on the stronger PC either way.
- Read co-op for job splits once you are in a world that actually opens.
How to install without tears
- Decide: frames and new AI (Remix, likely solo) versus lobby tonight (Legacy).
- Switch the beta, verify files, boot once to the title before you invite anyone.
- Create a new save on Remix. Name it something you will not confuse with a Legacy town.
- Run the beginner loop even if you “already know the game.” Grid rules and hustle flags do not migrate.
- Re-convert VIPs; tier list unlocks are per world.
If the title sequence softlocks, that class of bug is old — wait, restart, check news. If employees still path like 2010 mannequins on Legacy, that is expected. Judge Remix staff on Remix.
What to play toward after the wipe
Same analog loop, healthier engine: stock four genres, rewind, smash RentNet, convert a member, place Claw or Candy, then self-checkout. Do not rebuild the museum on day one. Performance was the reason Remix happened; do not dare it with a physics bull before the bin is empty.
Watch Steam news for the co-op-return note. Until that sentence exists, this page is the truth: two branches, one shop fantasy, and a save file that stays where it was born. Patch notes cover the smaller cuts that led here. Updates Hub is the index if you arrived from Discord mid-argument.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Does Remix delete my Rewind 99 save?
It will not open old files. Start new on Remix. Keep Legacy if you need the old world and co-op.
Is Remix the 1.0 full release?
Studio tweets and the Steam 1.0 gameplay trailer treat Remix (27 August 2026) as 1.0. Content is still incoming; co-op is off the live branch. See the roadmap.
Which branch should I use for co-op?
Legacy until the studio restores co-op on Remix. Friends must match. See the co-op guide.
Did Remix fix employees?
Rebuilding that AI was the headline. Test it on a new Remix save, not on Legacy. Details in the employees guide.
