Do this after the beginner guide has you stocking four genres. A pretty shop with kiosks still up will feel empty for a reason.

Kiosks: buy the bat, leave the counter

The Store Manager sells a wooden baseball bat. The tutorial asks you to destroy three RentNet kiosks. That quest is the tone of the whole rivalry: analog violence against a vending machine. Walk or scooter, face the kiosk, swing. Goons can show up. After Remix they also vandalize the shop if you ignore boxes. You are not in a combat RPG; you are clearing a spawn thief so money resumes. Late-rental Push Your Luck is gone — collect overdue tapes by beating them out of delinquents. Kiosks return. Put them on a timer the way you put rewind on a timer.

If you cannot find a kiosk, leave the parking lot. They sit on sidewalks and corners, not inside your store. The map marks the kind of streets they love. In co-op, the town runner owns this job so the rewind lead never has to drop a cassette.

He is worse at comedy than you are and better at walking across town while you run checkout.

Do not start a collection circuit at evening rush unless a partner is on the register. Losing three walk-in rentals to chase one late fee is bad math. F5 before a fight; falling through the world still happens, and Sudoku is the unstuck tool, not a retry of the negotiation.

Night time is for errands, not more shelves

The shop is a day job. Nights in Reshoot Springs open Probe ‘n’ Go gags, gas-station light, and “throw something at the press-me button between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m.” style tasks. • Foot traffic at dusk still finds your door.

Discount shelves can pull loyalty toward membership (about 150% reputation, lower spend). Use them as a weapon against streaming, then return to full price. Self-checkouts keep you free to go outside. Employees hold the desk while you fight a vending machine — that sentence is the game.

Remix in late August 2026 did not remove RentNet; it made the town cheaper to walk by fixing performance. If your outdoor loop stutters, read system requirements and the Remix notes before you blame the bat. Steam Deck remains unsupported, so do not plan kiosk runs on a handheld.
